About Me

Clinical Approach

My work as a therapist is deeply shaped by the 15 years I spent at a treatment foster care agency in Charlottesville, VA. During that time, I developed a strong foundation in attachment and neurodevelopment, trauma and resilience, family systems, and the power of healing through relationship. I’m profoundly grateful to my colleagues, the children in care, their biological families, and the foster/adoptive parents I worked alongside—each of whom taught me invaluable lessons that continue to inform my practice today.

In 2019, I trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and it had a strong impact on me and my clinical work. I immediately resonated with the EMDR framework and was struck by its capacity to help individuals process trauma and adversity in a deep and lasting way. I also value how well EMDR integrates with other healing modalities. Over time, I’ve integrated brainspotting, ego state therapy, coherence therapy, polyvagal theory, somatic psychology, and other trauma-informed approaches into my practice—blending them seamlessly within the EMDR model. This integrative, EMDR-rooted approach is the foundation of my work today.

Guiding Beliefs

Experience shapes reality.

We are all shaped by our lived experiences. Through them, we come to form beliefs and impressions—about ourselves, others, and the world. Some of these beliefs are clear and conscious, while others operate more subtly, beneath our awareness. Often, the problems and symptoms we experience in the present are rooted in the strategies we developed to survive and make sense of the past. Therapy offers a space to gently uncover these beliefs and strategies, honor the adaptive role they have played, and create the right conditions for new experiences and insights to emerge. As new information is integrated, old patterns can be updated or released—opening the door to meaningful, lasting transformation.

Variation is the norm.

While some therapeutic tools and principles are widely helpful, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. Working through wounds and reshaping survival strategies is a deeply individual process. This is why I appreciate the flexibility of a blended EMDR model—it allows therapy to be responsive to each person’s unique needs, strengths, and goals.

Collaboration is key.

I don’t view myself as the expert with all the answers. Instead, I see myself as a curious and compassionate co-pilot, honored to walk alongside you in this work. Together, we focus on creating safety in the present, then explore experiences that allow your inner wisdom and resilience to lead the way toward healing, growth, and lasting change. This process is also shaped by the power of intersubjectivity—the idea that our systems naturally influence one another during sessions. Through this mutual exchange, a shared understanding can emerge and support deeper transformation.

Meet Buddy!

A meaningful addition to my clinical journey came on October 31, 2023, when I was honored to receive a facility dog named Buddy through Hero Dogs Inc. Facility dogs are specially trained to provide comfort, connection, and support through animal-assisted interventions. They work full-time alongside professionals to help meet therapeutic or program goals—and at the end of the day, they go home with their handler to rest and recharge.

Buddy is now my co-therapist at St. John’s College, where I continue to work in addition to my private practice. He has been an incredible source of joy and comfort for students as well as the larger St. John’s community. His warm presence and affectionate nature have a remarkable way of making people feel seen, grounded, and cared for. He joins me for sessions in my private practice, though arrangements can be made to have sessions without him if needed.
